N.Y.C Starry Silver Glitter and Sally Hansen Ice Queen Comparison

On a recent trip to Walgreens I came across a new Sally Hansen Hard As Nails display and found Ice Queen. When I first saw it I immediately thought of N.Y.C's Starry Silver Glitter, so I decided to take it home to do a comparison.

The great thing about these new Sally Hansen colors is that they are only about $2 each, even cheaper than their Xtreme Wear line. My only lament is that I was only able to pick up one since I was with my husband and I had promised him no polish buying. (As if that's even possible lol.) I even went so far as to hide the receipt and stash the polish in my back pocket so he wouldn't know!

Both of the polishes at first glance seem to be dead on dupes since both have baby pink and bright blue glitter suspended in a clear polish mixed in with tiny holographic glitter. The difference between these two is that N.Y.C's silver glitter is slightly bigger, thus making the holographic effect much more prominent on the N.Y.C polish. This picture is a bit blurry but it shows the holographic of both polishes and clearly N.Y.C has the better effect, in my opinion.

As far as application, I preferred N.Y.C since it seems to have a lot more hexagonal glitter, therefore, making it easier to fish them out. I debated whether it could be that maybe the bottle is just shorter but closer examination, it's clear that N.Y.C has the most glitter. With the Sally Hansen I had to dip the brush several times for one nail, whereas N.Y.C's brush was filled with the hexagonal glitter the first time. I used Cosmetic Arts light blue polish since this is what I was already wearing and it turned out to be a nice combination.

Here is Sally Hansen Ice Queen on my left hand:

This is N.Y.C Starry Silver Glitter on my right:

If this is a nail polish you have to have, I would reccommend N.Y.C because apart from being the better version, it's only .97 at Walmart. That's it for this post but I am going to do a second post for today on the light blue polish I'm wearing underneath the glitter.

  1. Whew! Thanks for the comparison. I am a new follower. I have the NYC one and keep seeing the SH version and wondered how they compared...I know they aren't expensive...but it's getting hard to hide the expansion of my polish collection!! PS. Check out my blog if you have a chance.
